Victorian Government has $100m in unclaimed cash

MoneyDREAMING of a lotto win worth up to $200,000?It might be easier to check if you’ve got money sitting in the State Revenue Office.

An incredible 800,000 Victorians have cash windfalls waiting to be collected, including a Mont Albert woman who has almost $200,000 unclaimed.

In total, more than $100 million in unclaimed cash is being held in state coffers.

The SRO holds money from wages, bonds, dividends, interest and proceeds of sale that have been unclaimed by residents, businesses or community groups for more than one year.

The smallest amount is $20, while the second-largest figure owed is $180,000 to a Mulgrave woman.

Treasurer Tim Pallas urged all Victorian residents, businesses and community groups to search the SRO database to see if they are owed cash.

“These windfalls, some worth thousands of dollars, are just sitting here waiting to be collected,” he said.

“The database is a quick and easy online search tool, so there is no need to involve a third party to track down your money.”

Other potential big winners include a Dallas woman who stands to be $160,000 richer, a Trentham man owed $110,000, and a Portland man sitting on $50,000.

The most money is owed to people in metropolitan Melbourne, where City of Melbourne residents or businesses can claim $18,422,247 from 105,067 entitlements.

The City of Monash has $7 million of unclaimed money in the SRO system, while the City of Yarra is next with $5.8 million.

All the money can be retrieved online, and Victorians who lived interstate can search whether they are entitled to cash from previous addresses.
